Air Berlin was the second largest german airline based in Berlin Tegel. It was founded in 1978 by a former Pan Am pilot. In 2006 it took over german dba. In 2007 LTU and Belair were taken over. In 2011 Etihad Airways took over 29% of Air-Berlin. Air-Berlin joined the oneworld alliance in 2012. Due to financial problems 40 aircraft were leased to Eurowings in 2016. Air Berlin was forced to cease operations in 2017.
